ROOSEVELT HISTORIC SITE TO HOST CITIZENSHIP CEREMONY
Ceremony to Celebrate Citizenship, Celebrate America
BUFFALO, N.Y. – On Friday, a group of Western New York residents will take the Oath of Allegiance to become United States citizens at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Historic Site. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the National Park Services (NPS) are holding this special ceremony to celebrate the 106th anniversary of the inauguration of Theodore Roosevelt as president of the United States.
The ceremony will take place on the front lawn of the Ansley Wilcox House, where Theodore Roosevelt took the oath of office on September 14, 1901, hours after President William McKinley died from an assassin’s bullet. The 24 applicants for citizenship hail from 17 nations, including Vietnam, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Iran, Brazil, and China. Anne-Imelda M. Radice, PhD, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services will address the new citizens.
This year the USCIS Buffalo District will welcome new citizens from nearly every country on the globe. Nationwide, USCIS helps between 500,000 and 700,000 men, women, and children fulfill their dream of becoming U.S. citizens each year.
