22 TO BECOME US CITIZENS ONBOARD THE STEAMSHIP TICONDEROGA

Citizenship Day Ceremony to Celebrate Citizenship, Celebrate America

SAINT ALBANS, Vt. – A group of 22 Vermont residents will take the Oath of Allegiance to become U.S. citizens onboard the retired steamship Ticonderoga during a special Citizenship Day naturalization ceremony on Monday, September 17. Vermont Governor Jim Douglas will address the new citizens.
These applicants for citizenship originally hail from 11 nations including Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, the Philippines, South Korea, and Ethiopia. Citizenship Day commemorates September 17, 1787, when 39 delegates from the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention signed the document that would soon be ratified as the United States Constitution.
This special Citizenship Day event is being held by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Shelburne Museum to celebrate the hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children from nearly every nation on the globe who will become U.S. citizens this year.
